FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Nearly a dozen spring breakers from New York are spending the week making a difference in the Shoals.

The group from Suny-Oswego partnered with the Shoals Habitat for Humanity to build a home on Broadway Street in Florence.

Volunteers spent most of the day hanging sheet rock.

The group said their decision to travel 1700 miles and give back to those in need is well worth it.

"It's just such a rewarding feeling to be able to give something back, to be a part of somebody's home where they make all their memories. It's just so rewarding, and also it's really warm a lot warmer than it is in New York, and the southern hospitality is just more than anyone could ask for," said student Sophie Marsden from Suny-Oswego.

This is the third consecutive year this group has helped the Shoals Habitat for Humanity chapter.
