The great 'Bama BBQ battle is on!
The Alabama Department of Tourism dubbed this the "Year of Alabama Food", and made a BBQ Bracket the centerpiece of their promotion.
The state is divided into four regions : North, South, Central and Gulf Coast. Eight restaurants from each region are going head to head, with fanatics invited to vote for their favorites online.
The eight rib joints representing north Alabama are : Big Bob Gibson's (Decatur), Johnny's (Cullman), New Market BBQ (New Market), Thomas Pit Barbeque (Madison), Lawlers (Athens), Whitt's (Decatur), Bunyan's (Florence), and Top Hat (Blount Springs).
