COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Colbert County Monday.

It hit near Leighton off Hatton School Road.

The cleanup continues out there.

People who live out on Hatton School Road said they knew it was a tornado that touched town as soon as it happened.

Toys, metal, and other material was wrapped around trees, and a home was badly battered Monday.

The homeowner said he and his wife have lived at here most their life.

They weren't at home when the tornado came through, and even though things look rough, the structural damage is not that bad.

Neighbors said they are all pitching in to help clean up and they are just thankful it didn't cause any more damage than it did.

"Hold our heads up and keep going and thank God for the help from people up and down through here that help. That's all we can do," said neighbor Jerry Lee Crittenden.

The NWS said it was an EF-0 tornado with speeds up to 85 miles per hour that touched down in Colbert County.
