HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The murder trial begins Wednesday for the man accused of shooting and killing a teen at a nightclub three years ago.
Steven Seay is charged with the murder of 17-year-old James Price.
A judge has allowed the prosecution to use statements Seay made to police as evidence in their case.
The then 22-year-old is suspected of firing shots at the "Infinity" club in Huntsville in 2010.
Police said a fight broke out at the venue, which was being rented out for a teen party.
Investigators said that's when Seay pulled out a gun and shot Price.
Price was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
The first responding
officer to the scene testified that he pulled up to chaos with hundreds of
people and 17-year-old James Price lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Prosecutors said 24-year-old
Steven Craig Seay, who was 22 at the time, told investigators himself that he
went to the club with family members intending to fight.
During the fight, two
shots were fired, hitting Price in the head.
A number of witnesses
testified to seeing Seay pull the trigger.
At first, Seay's defense
attorney submitted a motion to dismiss over self defense.
Prosecutors argued there
was no evidence of that whatsoever and that Seay pointed the gun and pulled the
trigger, but the burden is on prosecutors to prove that Seay intended to kill Price.
