NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) -
The New Market community plans to rally and rebuild this weekend, after the New Market/Riverton Rec Center was broken into and vandalized this week.
A WAFF viewer in New Market sent us several photos of the damage. They tell us that a chemical (possibly bleach) was poured all over office equipment, windows were broken, glass was scattered on the floors, and food was stolen and thrown around the floors. They also report that a fire extinguisher was emptied onto the gym floor.
The break-in happened sometime Sunday or Monday. The rec center is asking for volunteers to help clean up the building this Saturday (March 23rd) at 8:00 a.m. The park is scheduled to open for the spring in two weeks. The Rec. Center is located behind New Market School on Hurricane Rd. in New Market.
