HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
An apartment fire in Huntsville sent three people to the hospital overnight.
The fire started just after 11:30 p.m. Monday at the Huntsville Summit Apartments on Walker Avenue on the seventh floor. The
sprinkler system knocked down the flames.
Firefighters said four people were hurt.
A 66-year-old woman, Cathy Adams, was taken to UAB hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation. She is in critical condition.
HEMSI Director Don Webster
said a 40-year-old man and a 61-year-old man were taken to Huntsville Hospital
with non-life threatening injuries.
Paramedics treated a fourth person at the scene.
Authorities had to evacuate more than a dozen
apartments, but it looks like the only one that took a lot of damage was the
one where the fire started.
The building now has some issues with water. There
are fans out sucking up the extra moisture on the seventh, sixth, and fifth
floors - moisture caused by the sprinkler system.
Investigators have not released what caused
the fire.
