MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A dog died when lightning struck the shelter where he was taking cover from a thunderstorm moving through Madison County.

Fire crews responded to the home at 240 Empire Lane just after 2 p.m. Monday. Lightning struck the line Bruiser was attached to and traveled into the dog house.

The dog house and Bruiser caught on fire. The dog did not survive.

The fire was contained to the doghouse and did not damage the home next to it.
