To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Shelby County child is recovering from chemical burns he suffered in what investigators say was a meth lab accident.

Officials believe the one-year-old boy was burned by what appeared to be a drain cleaner from a possible meth lab. The child was taken by lifesaver helicopter to Children's of Alabama hospital.

The child's step-grandfather, Joseph Dupreist, described the boys burns as "horrible."

"A lot of facial injuries on the left side of his face. And also on his eye and on his left arm. Anybody that's experienced a burn, especially on the face knows it's agonizing," Dupriest said.

Two people, including the child's mother, have been arrested in the case. Sgt. Keith Webb with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office confirms that Brandy Shawyer, 26, is the mother of the child. She is in the Shelby County Jail on multiple charges, including chemical endangerment of a child.

Another suspect, 56-year-old Roger English, also faces drug-related charges and chemical endangerment of a child.
