DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Two juveniles were apprehended after allegedly setting fire
in a barn overnight Friday.
Deputies said the juveniles were playing in the barn when
the caught hay on fire, and when the fire got out of control they fled.
The building was destroyed along with several pieces of farm
equipment and 275 rolls of hay. Investigators said the estimated loss was
$52,000.
Deputies turned the juveniles over to family members. A
hearing is scheduled for them in juvenile court.
"I
feel bad for the owners and the families of the juveniles. We don't think this
was malicious but there are still consequences. I hope everyone can get this
behind them and the kids learn from their mistakes. This is a terrible loss for
a farmer at this time of year," said Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
