GADSDEN, AL (WAFF) - The Gadsden Community is getting ready to say goodbye to a young girl, taken too soon.
A funeral service for 20-month-old Maliyah Lindsay is set for later Saturday.
Maliyah was found dead in a wooded area on Tuesday.
Police said she was killed with a large knife or a sword.
A memorial has been placed at the scene where Maliyah's body was found.
People have placed stuffed animals, balloons, ribbons and flowers in the area. Residents have been dropping by to pay tribute to the little girl.
Lindsay will be buried at Mission Baptist Church Saturday afternoon. Her family held a vigil in her honor Friday night.
Gadsden Police charged the girl's father, 35-year-old Stephon Lindsay, with capital murder in her death.
Lindsay had his first court appearance Friday morning. He was appointed an attorney and now has a preliminary hearing set for early April.
