LSU may have jeopardized its chance for an NIT bid, after giving No.1 seed Florida very little resistance in an 80-58 SEC Tournament quarterfinal loss Friday afternoon in Nashville.
LSU (19-12) stayed with the Gators for about half of the first half, just like they did in another 22-point home loss in January, but Florida used a 9-0 run to expand its early 18-17 lead and never looked back.
Erik Murphy, who had only five field goals and five fouls in that first meeting in Baton Rouge the Gators won 74-52, scored 27 points to go with 12 rebounds leading the way.
Florida (25-6) got a Michael Frazier 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to take a commanding 43-28 lead at the break and expanded that margin to as many as 35 points in the second half.
Charles Carmouche led the Tigers with 14 points, while Johnny O'Bryant was held to just eight points and three rebounds.
