Sources close to the case tell 9News the teenager accused of killing an 8-year-old boy in 2010 by slashing his throat dropped his insanity plea and pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
Reese was scheduled to go to trial Monday on a count of first degree murder charge. The sentencing hearing for 19-year-old Trevor Reese has not been set. Reese's sentencing has been deferred until after the legislative session.
Reese is accused of killing 8-year-old Jackson Attuso of Clinton in a West Feliciana Parish subdivision on June 10. Reese was 16 years old when the crime happened.
A grand jury indicted Reese for first-degree murder, but he will not face the possibility of the death penalty.
Reese has been held in the West Feliciana Parish Prison since his arrest on the day of the murder.
According to authorities, Reese stabbed Attuso to death while the young boy was riding his bike through the woods with his mother.
