BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a Baton Rouge man has been arrested in the murders of two Metairie residents after he was found driving the stolen car belonging to one of the victims.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Melvin Miller, 20, on its Facebook page Wednesday. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Miller is now being charged in the crimes, but has been in jail since Feb. 19 on a parole violation.

The "badly decomposed" bodies of Morris Williams, 36, and Akeen Boudreaux, 33, were found inside a Metairie apartment on Feb. 14. Investigators discovered Williams' Pontiac was missing, along with a laptop computer and cell phone.

Five days later, the JPSO detective investigating the murders learned officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department had responded to a domestic call in which Miller was named as being involved. According to reports, Miller had fled the scene driving a silver Pontiac that matched the description of Williams' stolen car. Police apparently found him that same day.

Deputies said when questioned about the murders, Miller denied being near New Orleans around that time. However, JPSO reported cell phone records put him in the area around that time. The detective also reportedly learned not only had Miller driven Williams' stolen car to Baton Rouge, but also had the victim's missing computer and phone.

Detectives said Miller told them he got the car from an unknown man in Baton Rouge.

Miller was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the parole violation after being questioned about the murders. The detective investigating the two deaths then got an arrest warrant for two counts of second-degree murder.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
