SOMERVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Firefighters in Morgan County battled a house fire in Somerville early Thursday morning.
Flames engulfed a home on the intersection of Lando Cain Road and East Byrd Road around 3:15 a.m.
The man who was in the house said he woke up to smoke inside his home. He ran outside, saw additional smoke, and called 911.
Somerville's volunteer fire department responded and called in extra units to help them put the fire out.
Hartselle Fire and volunteer fire departments in Priceville, Oden Ridge and Florette assisted.
Firefighters used water from two different hydrants, one of which was a quarter-mile from the house.
They stayed at the scene for about three hours but returned sometime after 7 a.m. upon reports of the fire rekindling.
There were no injuries.
The home is destroyed and the cause remains under investigation.
