HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville has been chosen along with 13 other cities across the country to compete to host the 2013 Social Media Tourism Symposium (#SoMeT13US).
The Social Media Tourism Symposium's host city will be chosen solely by votes on social media. Huntsville is the only city in the state of Alabama to compete for this conference.
Round one of voting kicked off March 13th and it ends on Friday, March 15th at 11 a.m. To move forward to round two, Huntsville needs to receive more votes than six of its competitors. After round one, an "elite eight" group of cities will compete head to head. After four rounds, the city with the most votes will be named the 2013 host city.
"It's estimated that the Social Media Tourism Symposium would bring close to $180,000 in direct spending to Madison County," explained President/CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau Judy Ryals.
Two hashtags have been created for discussing the voting process on Twitter: #MeetMeAtTheRocket and #SoMeT13US.
