MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The state Senate Education
Committee is set to consider a bill that would repeal the state's use of
the Common Core education standards.
The bill by committee Chairman Dick Brewbaker of
Montgomery would undo the standards adopted by the state Board of
Education in 2010. It would also require the Legislature to review any
new standards. His committee meets Wednesday morning.
State Superintendent of Education Tommy Bice says
he favors keeping the Common Core standards, which are now part of the
Alabama College and Career Ready Standards. Gov. Robert Bentley
supporting repealing them.
The standards cover math and English. They were recommended by the National Governors Association.
