MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
Students at Legacy Elementary School remembered a former classmate, killed in a hit-and-run.
Matthew Dahl was struck and killed while riding his bicycle in May of 2011.
After the tragedy, donations poured in to the Dahl family.
They were uncertain what to do with the money but knew they wanted to put it back into the community.
On Wednesday morning, they unveiled a new ballpark in Matthew's honor.
"The outpouring of the community was unbelievable because we are not from this area and to have people come in and just take us into their hearts and give us a big warm hug, I mean this is our home now, it will always be our home," said Matthew's mother, Marge Dahl.
Marge said Matthew loved baseball, and this seemed like a perfect tribute.
