MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Marshall County continues on the road to recovery.

They have switched gears from the 2011 tornadoes to now looking ahead and preparing for the next disaster, and when disaster strikes, they need volunteers.

They want those volunteers to be ready and well trained, and that preparation begins now.

Members of the Marshall County Long Term Recovery and Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster began preparing Tuesday morning for the area's next disaster.

Emergency Management Agency officials said preparations made on Tuesday will help when the time comes for the next disaster.

Volunteers play a crucial role in disaster preparedness. Officials said they help with the various organizations such as EMA and Red Cross, but volunteers themselves must also be ready.

"If they want to work with the United Way, they'll train them.  If they want to help with DHR, so there's plenty of organizations they can just work as a group in our VOAD group and do a number of things, but it's important to train ahead of time to be prepared for these disasters," said Judy Rhea with the American Red Cross.

If you would like to volunteer, contact the Marshall County EMA for more information.
