DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A former DeKalb County investigator will not serve jail time after pleading guilty in connection to a cyclist's death.

One of the wishes of the victim's family was to ensure that the suspect never drives again, so his driver's license was permanently suspended.

Craig Lee Chandler pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in the death of 22-year-old Christina Genco.

The accident happened along Highway 35 between Fort Payne and Rainsville in June 2011.

Special prosecutor Steve Marshall said Chandler's actions were not reckless; rather he failed to follow the rules of the road.

Specifically, Marshall said Chandler failed to yield while passing.

Genco was from Boston, Massachusetts and was with a group of bicyclists.

The group Bike to Build were part of a ride from South Carolina to California to promote affordable housing such as Habitat for Humanity.

Marshall said Chandler will be on two years unsupervised probation.
