Saints keep Vilma and Smith, lose Daniel and Herring

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) -

According to a league source the Saints have restructured contracts that will keep linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Will Smith in New Orleans. The team did not release details of the new contracts.

Without the new contracts the two players would have counted for more than $23 million against the team's salary cap.

In other Saints news, backup quarterback Chase Daniel has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Daniel will compete against former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.

The Saints also parted ways today with backup linebacker Will Herring.

Today's moves should allow the Saints to enter the Free Agency market and address the team's weaknesses.
