PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -
Better communication and improved efficiency are both parts of the new world order behind the Prattville Police Department's new crime unit.
Prattville police
investigators Tom Allen and John Lee are convinced had it not been for the new
crime unit, burglary suspect 29-year old Reggie Lamont Haley would still
be on the streets today.
"More than
likely," said Allen.
With help from the
Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, police captured Haley within 72 hours
after he allegedly burglarized one of the apartments at Plantation Apartments
in Prattville off Highway 14 on March 4th.
"The public is
going to see a more thorough investigation and quicker arrests," Lee explained.
The apartment burglary
was the first crime investigated under the Prattville Police Department's new
crime unit initiated by new chief Mark Thompson. The new unit focuses on
strengths.
Tom Allen, for example, is better suited in evidence gathering while
other investigators do a very good job of getting information from witnesses on
the scene. The new crime unit is expected to produce better results; quicker
leads, quicker arrests.
"Some of us are
good on the SWAT team, gathering evidence, interviewing victims and
suspects," Allen said.
It turns out Haley was
wanted for other burglary crimes in Montgomery County and remains in the Montgomery
County Detention Center.
