FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Three men have been arrested in connection with a weekend rape on the campus of the University of North Alabama.

Hospital officials called UNA police while treating a female student who reported that she was raped in her dormitory over the weekend.

Campus Police Chief Bob Pastula said the woman had been assaulted by multiple men after one of them "coaxed her into his dorm room."

The student was taken to the hospital by friends following the assault.

Deandre Harrison, D'Anthony Byrd, and Eddrick Harris have been arrested and are in custody.

Police said they're actively investigating and that witnesses are cooperating.

Harrison and Harris are students at UNA and on the football team.

"These are very serious charges. We have and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement. The individual involved is suspended until final adjudication through the legal system," UNA Athletic Director Mark Linder said in a statement.
