For the second time in three seasons, the University of North Alabama women's basketball team will be playing in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Lions received an at-large invitation to play in the NCAA South Region Tournament next weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
UNA (20-10) earned a No. 6 seed in the eight-team field and will play third-seeded Delta State at noon (EST) on Friday, March 15, on the campus of Nova Southeastern University. NSU (20-8) earned the top seed and will play eighth-seeded SIAC tournament champion Clark Atlanta at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Other opening-round tournament matchups include No. 4 Lynn against No. 5 Rollins (8:30 p.m.) and No. 2 Tuskegee against No. 7 UAH (2:30 p.m.). Semi-final games will be played Saturday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. with the championship game set for 7 p.m. on Monday.
The winner advances to the national quarterfinal round for the final 16 teams in the tournament, which will be held at the Bill Greely Arena in San Antonio, beginning March 26.
North Alabama faced the Lady Statesmen (19-9) twice this season, getting a 59-58 road victory on Jan. 5 and a 52-42 win Feb. 9 at Flowers Hall. DSU is making its
appearance in the tournament, including its eighth straight..
