HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The warm temperatures and
a nice breeze made it a perfect day to fly a kite Saturday.
The first annual
"Soaring for Social Justice" kite festival was Saturday at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.
Hundreds of people with more than 60 non-profit
organizations took part in the event.
It was sponsored by the group AshaKiran and the city of Huntsville. The idea was to bring
people closer together through interaction and to raise social awareness.
"The theme is social
justice. And what we're aiming is for people to look at community
responsibility and individual responsibility towards social justice," said the event's organizer, Shani Kapoor.
The Soar for Justice Organizers hope to make
the kite festival an annual event.
