I-90 east and westbound is closed between East 152nd Street and East 260thth Street while crews work to dismantle the pedestrian bridge.

Police say a dump truck traveling with the trailer raised struck the pedestrian bridge, severely damaging it and causing the trailer to turn over.

"All I can think is he must have really been booking it to hit with so much force that the trailer stays there and he kept driving on," one driver said.

Due to the damage to the bridge, I-90 will be closed in both directions for the remainder of the weekend.

The dismantling of the bridge will continue in sections overnight.

ODOT spokesperson Amanda Lee says the bridge has had repair work done to it within the past couple years, so there weren't any previously existing structural concerns.

Police have asked that all motorists avoid the area if possible.  Motorists traveling to the west are encouraged to consider alternate routes such as 271N to 480W.  Motorists traveling on I-77 and I-71 are encouraged to use 480 to head east.

RTA has also rerouted the #37 E. 185th/Taylor line around the impacted area.

The driver of the truck, Michael Edwards, 35 was driving a vehicle for Big Blue Trucking out of Warren.

Edwards will be cited for all appropriate traffic violations by the Cleveland Division of Police.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded as well for inspection of the vehicle. ODOT remains on scene to inspect and remove the bridge.

Cleveland Police have deployed officers and traffic controllers to the affected neighborhood streets to help divert traffic and alleviate congestion.

There are no serious injuries or fatalities being reported at this time.
