HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) -
Homewood Police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting a teenager to death at a hotel during the weekend.
Homewood police have charged Derrick Leimon Sailes, Jr., 18, with the murder of Jvonte McKinslay Hines, 17. Police found Hines had been shot to death on the third floor of the Rodeway Inn on Oxmoor Road around 3:25 a.m. Sunday, March 3.
The shooting happened after an "altercation between two groups of people" at the hotel, Sgt. Andrew Didcoct with Homewood PD said in a release.
Sgt. Didcoct said the Sailes had a Birmingham address. The coroner's office said the victim, Hines, was from Forestdale.
Sailes is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000.
