FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
Florence city leaders are going on the record in full support of the construction of a new hospital.
The mayor and city council drafted a letter to state lawmakers confirming the request for a certificate of need to build a new facility.
The new facility will be built in the east side of town and serve not just Florence, but the surrounding areas.
"We felt like it was important for us to be united together and do a resolution to send to the governor and others in state government on the importance of allowing a hospital to be built here," said Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock.
Officials hope to break ground on the new hospital sometime this summer.
