Last week the four Alabama football players accused of beating and robbing a young man were kicked off the Alabama football team and kicked out of school. While I am all for second chances, I am happy to see that second chance will not be happening at the states flagship university. I believe the actions of Coach Saban and the university send a strong message to kids looking to play at the highest level of college football. Character and conduct matter. It isn't enough to be the fastest, strongest, or most athletic. These young men are definitely talented, and if athletic young men being kicked out of other programs is any indicator of what will happen to these four former players, you can be certain they will play for a much smaller school and have a shot to live their dreams. I sincerely hope they have learned from their actions, but more than anything, I hope kids who have seen what happened, will think long and hard about not just how the conduct themselves, but who they chose to associate with.
