MOUNT VERNON, TX (KLTV) -
A threat made on social media led to the suspension of a Mount Vernon
Independent School District student on Friday afternoon.
According to Mount Vernon ISD superintendent John Kaufman, a threat was made on a social media outlet by a male Mount Vernon ISD student referencing another school tragedy. The post was brought to school administration's attention late Friday afternoon, about eight hours after it was initially posted.
The superintendent's office turned the situation over to law enforcement and on Friday evening, Franklin County Sheriff's Deputies arrested the student. He was transported to a juvenile facility in Greenville.
Kaufman says the school district was never in danger. Schools were not locked down because students had already gone home for the weekend.
The student will be placed in alternative education when he returns.
Police are patrolling Mount Vernon campuses at the beginning and end of every day.
