HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville city workers met with the public Monday night to hear their thoughts on how to enhance the area's entertainment district.
Those in attendance discussed concerns ranging from location, to local businesses - even drinking in public.
Lynne Williams attended the meeting out of sheer curiosity.
"I'm here to find out what is being talked about," she said. "I get really excited about economic development in Huntsville and really what they accomplish when a lot of the different groups come together."
Williams has an idea of what she would like to see to spruce up downtown.
"More restaurants and maybe a movie theatre," she said. "We've already got some movie offerings, but maybe more venues where musicians can go and perform."
Mayor Tommy Battle said there are still a lot of things to consider when it comes to what the area needs and what it can handle.
"You look at hours of operation, what type of support it requires, do you have to have police officers on hand all during the times that it's open, what kind of support it requires in cleaning up afterwards…" Battle said.
Workers with the city have spent months visiting other cities' entertainment districts to find out what works for them. Now it is down to finding what works for Huntsville with the help of the public and applying it.
Battle said in the next month or so, city workers will come with an ordinance to go on the books that will enact the entertainment district.
