Semi plows through I-65 guardrail

A tractor-trailer smashed through a guardrail on Interstate 65 near Trinity Lane at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear but the Tennessee Department of Transportation described the wreck as a jack-knifed semi.

The rear portion of the semi's flatbed trailer was left dangling over the edge of the interstate.

The cab came to rest on a hill along Brick Church Pike.

"When I hit the ground, I just stepped out of the truck and said, 'Aw man,'" said driver Barry Burns of Gallatin.

Burns said he remembered a car pulling in front of him, causing him to slam on the brakes and lose control of the vehicle.

"I just remember bouncing around in the cab, and I was just thinking, 'Uh oh,'" said Burns. "You'd think an ambulance would be here carrying me off in a stretcher."

Instead, Burns was walking, feeling fine immediately after the wreck.

"Truly blessed when you walk away from something like this," said Burns. "I guess the good Lord was with me. That's all I can say."

It took crews several hours to clean up the mess.
