ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -
Limestone County deputies arrested and charged a woman for cruelty to animals.
Investigators said 24-year-old Farrah Michael is responsible for a pit bull that was tied to a pole with a rusted chain. That chain had cut into the animal's neck.
Deputies said Michael pretended to be a good Samaritan who just found the dog and took it to a veterinarian in Athens. Investigators said she was actually responsible all along.
Doctors at the Town & Country Animal Hospital said they've seen an outpouring of support and donations. They've raised enough to cover a surgery for the dog, and the community even voted on a name for her - Honey.
Doctors believe she may have been used as a bait dog in a fighting operation.
