FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
The Florence city school
district is taking a major leap forward when it comes to fine arts.
Wednesday, the school district announced plans
to partner with a local recording studio.
The partnership is with Fame Studios and the
idea is to give students the chance to learn directly from professionals in
their respective fields, whether it be art, music or theater.
Dozens of community members showed their
support for the program at Florence High School Wednesday afternoon.
The academy will allow students
to get an up-close look, and in some cases first-hand experience, at careers in
the arts.
Fame recording studios' Rodney Hall said it's
more important now to help students recognize their talents and reach their
full potential.
"What I hope basically is for these kids to be
able to learn and bring something to the music community later on down the line
and to be able to grow the Muscle Shoals sound back to the prominence it
deserves and where it was at one time," he said.
School officials said the
academy will not interfere with their standard course load and will allow
students to explore the world of fine arts across the board.
The district will launch
the "Florence Academy of Fine Arts" this fall.
