ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Marshall County authorities say a man involved in a chase with deputies shot himself Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities have identified the man as Eric Daniel Warden.
Investigators responded to the area of Sampson Road on a tip to locate a wanted person Wednesday morning. Just before 1 p.m., a deputy spotted a vehicle driven by a person matching the fugitive's description.
The truck turned into a driveway on Sampson Road and parked. As the deputy approached, he heard a single gunshot and found Warden suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Because the shooting happened in front of law enforcement, Sheriff Scott Walls requested an independent investigation by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to examine the facts of the case.
Warden was transported to Alabama Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
