Once again Huntsville international airport has the dubious distinction as the most expensive airport in America. The rankings are based on the average fare paid per flight. While the airport is quick to point out that Huntsville has more last minute business travel than most cities, I do not believe that is why our prices are so high. Most of the travel through our airport is by government workers or contractors who get reimbursed for their flights. As a result, many of the people flying are not really the ones paying the ridiculously high fares and airlines are taking advantage of that. It is time for travelers to stand up to these airlines. Going to another airport to fly the same airlines flying out of Huntsville international isn't going to get them to change their ways. If you do fly from another airport, I urge you to fly on a carrier that doesn't service Huntsville and let our airlines know about it. Until the airlines feel the financial consequences of fleecing flyers in Huntsville, nothing will change.
