BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Progress is being celebrated at Birmingham's new ballpark. Birmingham Mayor William Bell says the field will be ready in time for the Barons' first game.
The season opener is a little more than a month away, but there is still a lot of work to do. Recent rains have slowed down construction, but the mayor says there are no worries.
"It will be done. We've had that from the very beginning. First people started out saying ‘Oh, the Barons won't come back to Birmingham.' Then they said ‘They don't have the money to build it,'We didn't have the land. There have been naysayers all along, each step of the way we've proven them wrong."
The Barons first home game is scheduled for April 10th against the Mississippi Braves.
