Neighborhood comes together to remember hit-and-run victim

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Livia Rose Smith had moved to Nashville's east side from Massachusetts to start her life over.

"Shortly after she moved here, she got divorced. She had to start her life over. She was forced to make friends, establish herself, she did that very quickly," said Ian Struthers, Smith's brother.

The last time anyone saw Smith alive, she was leaving an East Nashville bar in a cab. In the early morning hours of Feb. 20, a passing driver found Smith's body lying on the side of Barclay Road. Amanda Hall can't erase that horrifying scene from her memory.

"I kept yelling out, 'Miss, miss.' I called 911. Then I walked up to her and kept compressing on her chest. I was praying, 'Oh God, please let her come back', I was just praying," said Hall.

Metro police believe that Smith was hit by a driver who sped off. The driver has not been found.

Smith was a makeup artist. Her brother told Channel 4 News she was highly respected and very much in demand by Nashville's music industry.

"Very successful career, she also had a thriving freelance career as well, working on some very high profile singers and musicians in the city," said Struthers.

Police want to talk to the cab driver who picked Smith up from the East Nashville bar. They hope he can shed some light on the last minutes of Smith's life.

Cloud cover has been persistent through the morning, but those clouds should start breaking up this afternoon. While we have been slow to warm under cloudy skies, highs should still push into the mid-70s with more sunshine late. ?
