Popular Nashville teacher dies after weekend crash

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A popular Metro middle school teacher died Saturday after she was involved in a single-vehicle wreck in the Berry Hill area.

Carol Lampley, 28, was driving a 2005 Acura RXS eastbound on Thompson Lane about 10 p.m. Friday when the vehicle left the roadway, crossed the Franklin Road exit and crashed into a tree, police said.

She had just left the Predators game downtown and was heading home, but investigators do not know why Lampley, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suddenly left the roadway.

There was no evidence of alcohol involvement at the scene, police said.

Lampley taught Spanish at McMurray Middle School, and many teachers there ended the school day Monday in tears at the loss of a popular and promising young teacher.

"She was full of life," said the woman's aunt, Cheryl Lindsay. "Tried to think about what good could come from this, but there has to be some good."

Lampley is survived by her husband and an 18-month-old son.

Lindsay remembers how happy her niece was when she was assigned to McMurray Middle.

"She would call me and say, 'I love teaching this year,'" Lindsay said.

Lampley came from a teaching family. Both parents are teachers, and so is her aunt, who remembers the gift her niece had to get her students to grasp a lesson.

"She'd come up with cute ways to remember things, to get them to learn," Lindsay said.

Lampley loved the kids she taught and even made special Valentine's Day cards in Spanish for them.

"She wrote Valentine's cards to each of the students and took their picture and put them on the envelope. She said a lot of them never had pictures of themselves," Lindsay said. "You cry until there are no more tears, and there's more."

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
