PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

The man convicted of killing Prattville resident Patricia Lasserre in 2005 was sentenced Monday in Judge Sibley Reynold's courtroom. Clifford Wynn will serve two life terms for Lasserre's rape and murder.

Wynn loudly protested his conviction, and said at one time, "I didn't do a damn thing!" Wynn claimed he had been 'railroaded' by the system and blamed bad counsel.

An Autauga County jury convicted the 50-year old Wynn in December for the rape and murder of 53-year old Patricia Lasserre a little more than 7 years ago.

Mrs. Lasserre was on her way home from work in Clanton when she somehow came in contact with Wynn on County Road One.

Lasserre was only 4 miles away from the home she shared with her husband Jeff Lasserre.

Jeff Lasserre told the court Clifford Wynn physically took his wife way away but not the memories.

"We'll continue to be a family. We're a loving family. We'll move on and keep her memories alive," said Jeff Lasserre.

One of Wynn's attorneys, Kim Kervin, says they haven't decided if they'll appeal.

"It seemed he was upset today about the verdict, so I plan to meet with him and weigh his options. We have to file within 30 days," said Kervin.

The sentencing of Wynn was also a relief for Autauga County Sheriff Chief Deputy Joe Sedinger. Sedginer admitted had it not been for DNA, there's a good chance the Lasserre murder would still be an open case today.

"It would have been more difficult. We had DNA, fingerprints and circumstantial evidence, but yes it would have been more difficult," said Sedinger.

Through it all Jeff Lasserre never did find out exactly what happened that night on County Road One or the motive but Lasserre says he's okay with that because he got what he wanted; justice.

Autauga County court officials say Clifford Wynn will be taken to a state prison once the paperwork is done. Wynn is eligible for parole years from now. As Wynn was being led out of the courtroom by deputies, he used his cuffed hands to make an obscene gesture to the court, raising his middle finger to shoot a bird.

Scattered rain showers will linger this evening, especially east of I-65. There’s also a cold front still to our west that will move through the Valley with time overnight. Another round of heavier showers may develop along that front, but no severe weather is expected.
