Jake Ward had three hits and accounted for four runs as the University of North Alabama baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Kentucky State with a 10-3 win Sunday at Mike Lane Field.
UNA, now 5-4 overall, outscored the Thorobreds 46-2 in the series and did not allow an earned run.
In Sunday's win, UNA fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning but regained the lead in the bottom of the inning and never looked back.
Junior Cade Medley (1-1) got his first win at UNA, allowing two unearned runs and three hits in six innings of work. He walked four and struckout six. Drew Mobley, Jacob Westerhouse and Morgan McCarley each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
After Kentucky State got a run in the top of the first, Matthew Tittle delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the inning for UNA as he drove in Andrew Allmon and Josh Cyr. In the fourth, Ward delivered a run-scoring single and Will Dennis had an RBI-double to make it 4-1.
Kentucky State got another run in the fifth but UNA answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ward had an RBI-single in the inning and Josh Carpenter had a two-run single to push UNA's lead to 7-2. The Lions added two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth for the 10-2 win. Drew Humphrey doubled in a run, then scored on a throwing error in the seventh. Dylan Boston doubled in UNA's final run in the eighth.
UNA hosts Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday (Feb. 26) at 2 p.m. in a single game at Mike Lane Field as part of a seven-game homestand.
