HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Nearly 2000 people attended the 2nd Amendment rally in Huntsville Saturday.

The rally centered around the raging gun control debate in Washington.

Gun owners and gun supporters came out to discuss the recent proposals by President Obama on stricter gun laws.

Many people voiced their concern that the right to bear arms is in jeopardy.

They do not support stricter gun laws that affect the average citizen. Instead, they believe the laws should be aimed at criminals.

When it comes to preventing mass shootings, some stressed the importance of storing guns in a safe place and educating children on the proper ways to use them. Others suggested improving security at schools.

While the focus centered around guns, many were looking at a much bigger picture. They are concerned if they lose the right to bear arms, they may lose their other rights.

Those believers are asking people to take action by contacting their legislators.

Several Alabama lawmakers were in attendance and spoke at the rally.

The event is being called the biggest 2nd Amendment rally in Alabama.
