FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama was well represented when the season's first set of NCAA Division II South Region rankings were released on Wednesday. Both Lion teams earned a No. 4 spot in the poll, which includes teams from the Gulf South Conference, Sunshine State Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Florida Southern tops the men's list, followed by Alabama-Huntsville. Both teams sport identical 18-3 records. Saint Leo is third with an 18-5 mark. After UNA, Rollins, Eckerd, Benedict and Christian Brothers round out the top eight, while Nova Southeastern and Morehouse also crack the Top 10.
On the women's side, Florida Tech is ranked No. 1 ahead of Nova Southeastern and Tuskegee. Following North Alabama are Delta State, Lynn, Valdosta State, Rollins, West Georgia and Eckerd.
Eight teams from each region will qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The champion of each conference will received an automatic bid, followed by the next five highest-ranked teams.
