HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Burger King, Apple, Twitter, all have been hit by hackers in recent days.

High profile companies are almost always operating with the threat of a hacker causing problems.

The Burger King incident was a harmless prank, but it does shed light on a potentially dangerous threat.

IT experts in the Valley are getting ready by training a "cyber army" to fight back.

There is one course in particular at UAH that is in high demand: Cyber security.

For as long as the internet has been around, hackers have been taking aim. Some attacks are just cyber vandals; others are threats to national security.

The targets range from banks to the Pentagon, even the Morgan County's License Commissioner's website isn't immune.

Both government and private companies need a trained workforce to protect them. That is where classes at UAH can come in, under the direction of Dr. Sara Graves.

"We want as much information to flow as possible, but with all that openness comes increased security concerns. We're trying to prepare students and we're finding that the government agencies and industries here are asking UAH to please build in more courses in cyber security and other concerns on networking and data," said Graves.

More courses in cyber security are being offered than ever before, but Graves admits it's a challenge to stay ahead of the hacker mentality.

Graves added that to protect yourself from hackers, you have to think like one.

"We're so dependent on that kind of information and we don't want to close that information but you want to secure it even from a personal standpoint," said Graves.
