MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The autopsy results for a Morgan County woman are in and authorities say the man arrested for killing her won't be charge with murder.

According to the sheriff, the results confirm the investigation's preliminary conclusion about how Rodney Hagood killed Stacey Hagood on, so the charge will remain manslaughter.

They were divorced for several years but continued to live together. Their daughter discovered the victim's body in a bedroom in their Lacey's Spring home on Valentine's Day, which was also the couple's wedding anniversary.

Investigators believe Stacey died from a blunt force trauma to her head. Sheriff Ana Franklin says that was based on what the suspect told investigators after he turned himself in to authorities, and evidence at the crime scene. She says the autopsy results confirm that cause of death.

A court affidavit shows Rodney Hagood reportedly told investigators he pushed his ex-wife during an argument, she fell and hit her head and died.

At this point, the sheriff says unless there is new information, investigators will not upgrade the manslaughter charge.

If the charge was changed, it would be the district attorney's decision to bring that charge to the grand jury. He said his office will do a thorough review of the case before presenting to a grand jury, which could take several months.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
