DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
AT&T experienced a widespread outage in north Alabama Wednesday.
Areas in Lauderdale County, Madison County, Limestone County and Morgan County reported phone and Internet outages.
According to an AT&T spokesperson, an outside contractor cut a Metro Ethernet cable while working between Huntsville and Athens Wednesday.
The cut did not affect voice service. It only affected business data services in Athens, Hartselle, Cullman, Florence, the Shoals and Decatur.
A lot of cable was replaced and repairs were finished by late afternoon.
