RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -
Two additional suspects are wanted in connection with a double homicide that happened in Hurtsboro earlier this week. A third suspect is already behind bars. Rashawn Ricks, 17, was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder.
Police say around 11:30 p.m. Monday night they received a call that a car was on the side of Shady Grove Road with its doors opened.
When police arrived they found the bodies of two people inside the car. The coroner identified the victims as 35-year-old Reginald Berry of Pittsview and 26-year-old Michelle Buchannon of Opelika. The two had been shot to death.
Authorities made an announcement about Ricks's arrest Wednesday morning in press conference. Sheriff Heath Taylor says Ricks shot the couple multiple times, then fled the crime scene.
Ricks allegedly told investigators things about the crime scene that led them to believe that he was there. Ricks and Berry grew up in the area and apparently had a troublesome past and at one point they were in a physical altercation.
Taylor added Berry could have possibly been a witness to a shooting Ricks was involved in, in Macon County - and that's why Berry possibly became a target.
Buchannon simply got caught in the crossfire.
Ricks is being charged with two counts capital murder for the couple's death. He also has charges pending in Macon County for attempted murder and firing into a vehicle.
Ricks is being charged as an adult. No court date has been set yet.
Investigators need your help locating Dexter Saxton, 19, and Derek Cliatt, 20. It's believed that Cliatt may actually be wearing short dreads.
Both of the suspects face two counts each of capital murder. If you have any information on these suspects' whereabouts, please call police.
