BARTON, AL (WAFF) -
Freightcar America announced their plans to expand their manufacturing facility to the Tennessee Valley.
The plant will sub-lease a portion of the Barton Industrial Plant in Colbert County.
They hope to start production this summer and hire 200 employees by the end of the year and 400 employees by the end of 2014.
"We will be building cars we have not been building for a number of years. These will be flat cars and covered hopper cars eventually and other types of cars that will really help us grow our business. As we grow we will be able to create more opportunities for the local community. So there will be more jobs and more economic growth in the area," said Terry Heidcamp with Freightcar American.
Job seekers can start applying for the openings online beginning Wednesday.
