FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
Congressman Mo Brooks was in the Shoals on Tuesday.
One by one, visitors and city leaders signed in to greet Brooks - each person getting a chance to discuss items of interest with the representative.
Congress is getting a lot of heat for not being in session this week to respond to the president's sequestration bill.
Brooks said spending the week outside of the capitol is a necessity.
"I think it's important for Senate and House workers to be back with their constituents, to get outside of that Washington bubble and be able to interact with their constituents, their bosses, to reflect not only on sequestration but the deficit and debt issues, the illegal immigration issue, the gun control issue, and of other subjects that we have to deal with in Washington D.C.," he said.
Brooks will spend the rest of the week meeting with community members and local leaders in the Tennessee Valley before heading back to the capitol on Sunday.
