JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Jackson County man will spend two years in prison after admitting to trying to lure two young children for sexual purposes.

This man was initially charged with 18 counts, but in a plea deal with prosecutors 16 of the charges were dismissed, including the sex act charges involving five children, all of them under the age of 12.

Homer Edwin Fortner pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to two counts of enticing a child into a dwelling for immoral purposes dealing with two victims.

He was sentenced to two 10 year consecutive sentences, but that sentence was suspended provided he serves two years in jail.

Seven counts of first degree sodomy, five counts of sex abuse of a child under the age of 12, three counts of enticing, and a first degree sex abuse charge were all dropped.

Sheriff's officials said the charges stem back to two victims from the 1990's and three more current victims.

They said the incidents took place at a home in the Skyline community, and an investigation began after it was reported to a DHR worker.

Fortner must now register as a sex offender and turn himself in by March 19th to begin serving his sentence.
