FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

After months of discussions, the Florence City Council voted on an ambulance bid to serve both the city and Lauderdale County.

The Shoals Ambulance Service received the bid from the council.

Shoals Ambulance Service will provide care to all patients throughout the county including the Killen-Center Star area.

Tuesday night's decision was a result of a new proposal through a competitive bid process.

City leaders said the changes will not affect patient care.

"Every time you will get the same level of care in the city of Florence, the city of Killen, the city of Rogersville, the city of Waterloo," said George Grabryan with the Florence-Lauderdale EMA.

"We think we put together a comprehensive proposal that took into consideration response times the city and county were asking for, and we took into consideration the technology that we could offer that currently isn't being offered now," said Shoals Ambulance Service CEO, Bryan Gibson. "I can't really compare them side by side because I don't know what theirs is, but I was pleased to hear the outcome from the city council and the city staff that chose, us and we came out to be the winner for Florence."

The county commission is expected to vote on the contract next week.
